Helsinki is known for its modern architecture, design, and vibrant cultural scene, with museums, galleries, and music festivals, as carries history from the very begining of human´s trace, around the year 8.500 B.C.
It is the capital city of Finland and is located in Northern Europe, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland by the Baltic Sea. It offers a mix of historical and modern attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, Helsinki Cathedral, Helsinki Central Railway Station, and the contemporary art museum Kiasma, among waterfront parks and beautiful green spaces.
The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is around -4°C , and in July, the warmest month, it is around 17°C . It has a population of around 650,000. Finnish is the official language spoken in Helsinki. The city has efficient public transportation, including buses, trams, and a metro system, which makes it easy to get around the city. It also has an extensive network of bike lanes and is known for being a pedestrian-friendly city.
IUA Headmistresses Tania Gandolla and Magela Urruti enjoyed discovering this old world spring while attending the STEP2023 meeting with colleagues, where they explored Finland´s education system and co worked in planning the future of the generations to come.
